In this song I recall a few of my deepest memories. While one is of a specific event, the others are more general memories of mundane but intimate moments that have been burned into my mind through their frequency.
I have spent over half my life lying next to Dayna as I sleep. Though the experience is never duplicated i have a strong sense of every aspect of our ritual. There is a gestalt to our nocturnal dance in which we adapt, accommodate and respond to each other's breathing and unconscious movements. On the rare nights that we have slept apart it has often felt as if part of my own body is missing, and often I fill in this gap with her presence kind of like a phantom limb.
We share and express ourselves verbally more than most couples. Friends often comment that our relationship together seems to be one unending conversation. I have never even come close to feeling like we have nothing left to talk about.
I’ve never needed to live beyond this world
The history that’s unfolded fills my every cell
Our lives together what we feel and see
Gives my life meaning so fulfilling
The scene of Dayna reading to our son I only recall happening once, but its warmth, security and contentment deeply moved me. It became an image I could return to again and again which has me feel so fortunate to be alive, so fortunate to be able to have senses and emotions.
Yet the song ends as it began and that is with the physical and sensorial presence of Dayna being the center of both my life's meaning and sense of intimacy.
So much experience so much history
The feel of your body my deepest memory
The smell of your body my deepest memory
The sound of your laughter my deepest memory
You will always be my deepest memory

My Deepest Memory 11/4/09
Lying with you, you were my destiny
Your contented breaths, the source of my ecstasy
So glad to share our lives
We made a home of warmth and harmony
We grew a lot through care and empathy
Intoxicated by earthly delight
Our words we gave, delicate gifts of inquiry
Each story we heard, piqued our curiosity
The wonder that is life never ending mystery
Marvel at this lot we call humanity
I wandered home one snowy eve
The air was crisp the silence heartening
Soft yellow light spilled into the night
His thin pale hair wet and clean
His multi-colored robe resting comfortably
Snug on your lap listening to you read
That scene’s simple beauty filled my deepest need
I’ve never needed to live beyond this world
The history that’s unfolded fills my every cell
Our lives together what we feel and see
Gives my life meaning so fulfilling
So much experience so much history
The feel of your body my deepest memory
The smell of your body my deepest memory
The sound of your laughter my deepest memory
You will always be my deepest memory
