about

The fact that we can use our hands and body do literally "feel" and "touch" the world makes it possible for us to emotionally "feel" things, and allows to us to find something "touching" or for us to feel "touched" by an event. The sensation of touch and feeling has a direct relationship to our emotional world of feeling.

Not only touch but all of our sensations of sight, smell, hearing and taste give us a world to experience and feel. The lyrics of the song point out that we have and can "make sense" of the world, because we have senses.

Each time we hear, feel, taste, smell and see we are making sense, and through these sensations we are able to make sense of the world.

Making Sense is a song celebrating our sentience and sensorial prowess. It also is a song praising the body and its essential role in not only physical experience, but also in our emotional and cognitive life. A person who truly is engaged in their senses and body experience finds much satisfaction in the very process of being alive.

Oh, I’m feeling, such sweet deep feelings

Often times people try to make sense of their lives strictly as an act of consciousness separated from their body. They may do this by seeking some ultimate truth or certainty. In fact, they often view the world of sensation and the body as an illusion or obstacle to true reality. They look to make sense of life, to give life meaning, through avoiding or transcending the very way we make sense (body sensations).

The singer of this song finds joy, satisfaction and meaning in embracing the senses and the body rather than transcending them.

Some want to know everything, ignore the wisdom of making sense
Some want to own everything, I prefer the privilege of making sense

Some want to know everything, ignore their bodies making sense
Some want to own everything, my sole possession is making sense

Enjoying the very process of making sense, of having a body and embracing our humanity seems to make sense. Doesn't it?

lyrics

Making Sense 12/31/2010

Coming into view, are lilacs cloaked in dew,
such sweet aromas, now making sense
Running down the hill, I feel such a thrill,
As the wind blasts my ears, its making sense

I’ll undress you with my eyes, and linger at your thighs,
wistful dreams of future pleasure, just making sense
The humming of the strings, the chugging of the beat,
vibrates in my chest, I’m making sense

Oh, I’m feeling, such sweet deep feelings

Sweet vistas catch my eye, send shivers up my spine,
an eagle glides, keeps making sense
Self-revelations pique my mind, in cycles and in rhyme,
In stillness and in change we’re making sense

All the moments I’m alive, till the breath in which I die,
I’ll revel, in making sense
I’m a hedonist on fire, I’m a mountain of desire,
On this journey, just making sense

Oh, I’m feeling, such sweet deep feelings

Some want to know everything, I’m content just making sense
Some want to own everything, I prefer the joy of making sense
Some want to know everything, ignore the wisdom of making sense
Some want to own everything, I prefer the privilege of making sense
Some want to know everything, such is the beauty of making sense
Some want to own everything, mock the value of making sense
Some want to know everything, ignore their bodies making sense
Some want to own everything, my sole possession is making sense
