Underneath my mind is no shadow but a walking human being speaks to the fact that behind my thought lies my body which acts and lives in the real world. While my body is pre-conscious it really isn’t the shadowy unconscious of classical psychology.
While I celebrate and savor the body, this Flesh of Life, which functions and responds to the world in all its sensorial splendor, many deny its existence or put it on a short leash. Instead they seek pure spirit or total consciousness and imagine having experience without the “burden” of the flesh.
Through this supple and amazing body we have the opportunity for visceral intimacy and near endless delight. Through words, thoughts and sensations and the sensorial experience I’m like a child in a candy store wanting to taste every sweet. Each day I seek to maximize intimacy and ravage life with body, tongue and mind. While I devour all experience in its juicy succulence I notice the dieting spiritualists and mentalists looking at my actions with judgmental hesitation. Their refusal to dine on life is based on “silly pride”.
My ravaging of life fills me with almost constant anticipation, where play, passion and desire lead me towards increased intimacy with all I encounter. A pure spirit or a person divorced from their body cannot bask in the light or be warmed by the sun.
The spirit lives in an ideal world of Truth that transcends the body and mundane reality. This freedom comes at a cost. A cost I’m not inclined to incur. For me, I want to live until I die.
lyrics
Live Until We Die 10/18/12
Underneath my mind is no shadow
But a walking human being
Some ignore its existence
Put in on a short leash
Soft, warm and supple
Is the swaddling babe
When stiff, cold and rigid
we’re ready for the grave
So many opportunites we have
To maximize delight
Like a child in a candy store
Eyeing every sweet
I approach every conversation
With hunger not too discrete
I crave to ravage life
With tongue, body and mind
I want to unwrap each tasty piece
Intimacy is the prize
So many are on a diet
Based on silly pride
My life’s full of anticipation of the possible and intrigue
While others suffer through expectation
Their Truth causes all to freeze
Let me bask in the light
Warm my body in the light
