The bulk of our life is spent in a functional existence that lies between the extremes and ideals of language. Feeling neither happy nor sad, excited nor bored we just feel and think absorbing the day through our bodies and minds.
Sometimes it is comforting to just go with the flow of our experience and not try to make it into some kind of task, goal or accomplishment. This does not mean we stop reflecting, but rather that we savor and relish the moment for what it is and not for what we would like it to be or become.
I personally find these interludes to be both instructive and fulfilling. Often our lives reveal themselves the more we stop actively seeking and just observe. Such is often the shortest route to return to the things themselves, or to be re-introduced to the part of us that precedes our ambitions.
lyrics
Interlude 2/19/07
Neither alone nor united I sit on the stoop where I live
Watching robins alight then dart between foliage and limb
Between darkness and brilliance I ponder neither heady nor trite
Somewhat calm and excited I am thankful for this respite
Between sickness and health our bodies seem to bob and glide
Somewhat conscious somewhat surprised is where I reside
Neither war nor peace I fathom no real news to incite
In the space between harmony and dissonance I take in this life
I breathe in this life
