We have all the abundance and resources to provide everyone on the planet with food, shelter and clothing and a generally comfortable way of life. Through additional invention and technology we could render the fight for survival a rather quaint yet sad vestige of human history.
Yet, due to our fears and the will of the greedy and ambitious we are being trained and conditioned to fight instead of share, to hate instead of love. Peace is no more an ideal than war , yet for some reason we choose to believe in the inevitability of war than in the reality of harmony. If peace and harmony were truly a fiction and only war and conflict were real, we would have never populated the earth into the billions or created a standard of living far beyond the imagination of our forefathers.
For those who say that it is easier to destroy than to create, just take a look about at all we have created and the abundance that is now ours to share.
lyrics
Edge of Eden 8/22/91
Hanging on to the past there is nothing more certain
Than the pain the strange will induce
Covering ourselves with the armor of danger
We’ll do our best to subdue
We’ll live on defeating intruders
We’ll live on aggressive and bold
Living on the edge of Eden we will beat them
Living on the edge of Eden we will seize them
Nothing will puncture our balloon
No one will take this from you
In the battle of life the fighters do flourish
The winners decide what is true
The gods of the victors are moral and just
The defeated evil and cruel
We’ll live on treading towards heaven
We’ll live on deny Armageddon
Living on the edge of Eden we will fight on
Living on the edge of Eden we will march on
Never letting go of pain
Never trusting the strange
I turn my head from the celebration and
Mourn for the city left in flames
I look away from my peaceful garden and
Wish to share it with friends
Here we stand at the edge of Eden
With gas masks, hatred and rage
Here we stand at the edge of Eden
Killing it’s flowers and grain
Living on the edge of Eden
Living on the edge of freedom
When will we wake up and end all our sorrow
When will we wake up and look to tomorrow
Living on the edge, on the edge of Eden
Living on the edge, on the edge of freedom
