The surreal quality of the first two verses emphasizes the fact that feelings and passion often exist in a world of their own. Things desired (desiderata) and their impulses can be difficult to articulate or can appear in conflict with our rational way of being in the world. Reason and passion can be out of kilter with each other resulting in our feeling disoriented, confused or anxious.
Did I ever see clearly
With or without feeling?
Could I be dreaming?
Or do symbols have meaning?
Joy, meaning and intimacy are the rewards for those who successfully integrate passion and reason.
Yet I search for facts and
sense and sensible actions
The thinking part of me, the feeling part of me and the sensing part of me all contribute to who I am and who I become. Rather than be one consistent and constant whole, we are forever in flux yet with a sense of purposeful development.
Quietly,
I watch me move in the world
I feel me sense a world
I learn about me
I learn from me
I unleash such passion
Through each thought, sense and action
I orient myself not just from witnessing and integrating all aspects of my experience, but from connecting with others and processing their reactions to me.
Fervently,
I cry out into the void
I scream out into the void
Can anybody hear me?
Can anybody feel me?
Is anyone seeing this?
Does anyone feel this bliss?
I fervently want to share this amazing journey called life with others. I have little interest in transcending this life or become independent, but rather I want to fully embrace our sensorial and emotional worlds. I seek to embrace the moment interlaced and interdependent with others as well as myself.
Quietly,
Come sit with me a spell
Heed your internal plangent knell
Open your pores to passion
Your mind to temporal satisfaction
Consume every intimacy
For today you are, tomorrow you may not be
lyrics
Desiderata 9/8/11
Come into the light I heard her say
Though her eyes were closed.... how strange
Why are you leering?
Was her next query
Walking in a fog I slinked away
She kept on talking all the same
Did I ever see clearly
With or without feeling?
A gorilla kissed a swan and winked my way
He asked what I was on, I couldn’t say
Could I be dreaming?
Or do symbols have meaning?
Imagination’s such a friend
For it makes me smile in the end
Yet I search for facts and
sense and sensible actions
Quietly,
I watch me move in the world
I feel me sense a world
I learn about me
I learn from me
I unleash such passion
Through each thought, sense and action
Fervently,
I cry out into the void
I scream out into the void
Can anybody hear me?
Can anybody feel me?
Is anyone seeing this?
Does anyone feel this bliss?
Quietly,
Come sit with me a spell
Heed your internal plangent knell
Open your pores to passion
Your mind to temporal satisfaction
Consume every intimacy
For today you are, tomorrow you may not be
