Being exposed to bright sunlight after being in a dark room for an extended period of time can be disorienting and blinding.
Pulling back the curtain a shock of light blinds you
Formless wall of whiteness removes the sense of room
Slowly your eyes accustom to the light and you regain your ability to see.
Soon you see some edges a landscape comes into view
Once you gain your focus what you see is true
The living in a darkened room is similar to that of a person who has retreated from the world or is hiding from themselves.
Yet, nature is full of many uplifting things to see.
Florid scenes the promise of roses
Rises out from the morning dew
Song birds dart and rest on a low branch
Mourning doves warble a pensive coo
The worldly news can be quite unsettling with its constant stream of battle between us and them, between good and evil. Sitting comfortably in one's home it is easy to feel guilty over our life of convenience. Efforts to emotionally justify the actions of our government leaders often fall short amidst all of the logical inconsistencies and obvious spin.
You want to believe you’re with the good guys
That you leaders are honest and kind too
But when you try to look into the light
You sense that you’re being lied to and used
Despite the dark curtain of nationalistic propaganda one can still see a few rays of truth cutting through.
What it is, is not the news hype spewed
In the end compassion for all of mankind pulls back the curtain of fear and hatred and we begin to sense What it is
The few it seems want to deceive
To horde and control through belief
Yet, we all need help to stay in the light, to embrace others and stay life affirming.
Someone needs to pull back the curtain
We all need to pull back the curtain.

What it is 12/14/07
Pulling back the curtain a shock of light blinds you
Formless wall of whiteness removes the sense of room
Soon you see some edges a landscape comes into view
Once you gain your focus what you see is true
Florid scenes the promise of roses
Rises out from the morning dew
Song birds dart and rest on a low branch
Mourning doves warble a pensive coo
Sitting down to breakfast you listen to the worldly news
We’ve won another battle but there’s been another coup
The terrorists are coming their hatred is vile and crude
You feel a little guilty as you lick the jam from the spoon
You want to believe you’re with the good guys
That you leaders are honest and kind too
But when you try to look into the light
You sense that you’re being lied to and used
What it is, is what it feels like
What it is, is not the news hype spewed
What it is, is sharing this life
What it is, is the simple life skewed
The few it seems want to deceive
To horde and control through belief
What it is, is what it is
Someone needs to pull back the curtain
