We are frequently touched by the world both physically and emotionally. In essence every sense we have involves being touched. We taste when things touch our tongues, we hear when vibrations touch our eardrums, we see when light touches our eyes, we smell when aromas touch the nerves in our nostrils, and we of course feel when the wind, sun and objects touch our skin.

Much of what we see, hear and physically feel also touches us emotionally. Fragrances in the air can arouse many emotions as they relax, stimulate or beg us to dream. At times the world can touch us in ways which can startle and even traumatize us. At other times the world touches us in ways which have us feel intimately connected to all living things.

Sometimes the world touches me
Paints the world that is me
Makes the world I am to be

The world touches me and I respond. Each day experience provides my life with greater depth, intimacy and articulation. Moments of chaos and confusion are quickly given meaning and significance as they are woven into my personal history.
