about

Most believers and patriots love for like minded spirits is matched by their hatred of nonbelievers or ideological infidels. Spiritual bliss is often accompanied by a basic premise that life is full of pain and suffering and enlightenment and salvation only come to those who transcend and ditch themselves from the mundane and illusionary world of the flesh.

In this song I ask is this the best that we can do? Do we have to hate in order to love? Are our unions doomed to become us versus them? Why can’t we embrace life and not seek to transcend it? Why can’t we accept our mortality and savor the joys that only a sentient body can experience?

It seems self-defeating to me that we are always:
Making pleasure a tie to be undone
Viewing reason a false idol to be shunned

Yet somehow
I embrace my humanity
Death gives life its rightful sum

I personally find meaning in life's limits and imperfections in its fragility and temporality. Truth, Certainty and Immortality are fanciful endpoints which strip life of any sense of growth and development. I revel in the endless process of becoming wiser and a better person.

My life is like one vibrant symphony

Every life is like one vibrant symphony

lyrics

The Best We Can Do? May 12, 2007

Seek the perfect deity
Pray for your immortality
Flee life’s sensuality
Debase visceral reality

Steeped in life it feels insane to me
To demonize primal carnality

Pray to appease god’s vanity
Transcend to explain man’s suffering
Spawn endless irony,
By making god part of history,

Damn me now cloaked in humility
Explain to me what god does want

Making pleasure a tie to be undone
Viewing reason a false idol to be shunned

Yet somehow I embrace my humanity
Death gives life its rightful sum

Every moment is a diamond in the rough
To be polished its luster will shine on

Potential loss breeds opportunity
Our defeats make good times sweet

This here body gives my life its key
It responds to each pulse makes a melody
Discordant tensions resolve into harmony
My life is like one vibrant symphony
