While the first three songs have strong island flavors Take Me branches out quite a bit. It was intended to be the gold standard for a Pan-African Punk love song. In contrast to the typical ethereal romance ballad, Take Me is a full bodied visceral paean of the marriage of sensual ecstasy and relational intimacy. Rather than a collage of soft focused dream images Take Me paints a vivid and vibrant world of orgasmic unity.
Take Me is a stentorian call from every cell of the body and each pore of the skin’s urge for intimacy. The songs ecstatic rhythm reinforces and echoes the lead vocalist imploring his perspective lover to “Take Me” physically, sensually, emotionally and psychologically “within yourself”.
Yet, for all the singer’s passion and desire he is willing to wait for his lady to make the first move, to mimic the commitment that he has shown and professed to her. His desire for true intimacy is far stronger than his passionate nature, and he has no intention of pressuring or seducing her.
While frustrated by her caution, he realizes that nothing will be gained if the passionate aspect of their relationship isn’t a shared partnership. One sided intimacy will never be satisfying to either person, and therefore, he is willing to wait to see if her passions and desires can match his. Yet, it isn’t just about passions it is about taking each other fully and completely within.
He understands her hesitation and is too quite daunted by the potential depth, vastness and intensity of their incipient union. He suspects that her world is also being radically transformed by the time they spend together and though it is a bit scary, such all encompassing intimacy is what his entire being craves.
lyrics
Take Me 9/9/1982
Come here and touch me honey
There’s nothing more left to say
I’ve used all my cunning
Yet there you stay
I’ve assaulted you with emotion
Left you to yourself
Provided all the motion
You’ve watched me like a cat
Scenes like this really cause me pain
For I want to hold you, but I just refrain
I’ve never been the type to take the lead
Only with words can I state love, and how I feel
I’m spooked by you
Take me within yourself
Spent days in your basement
Exposed goblins for what they are
Set you free from your nightmares
Yet my monsters still get in the way
I’m spooked by you
Take me within yourself
