Some times it seems like everyone is selling something. Some are selling a message or way of life. Others are seducing you into buying something through titillation. Not only does sex sell, but even a hint of the promise of sex sells.
Some people sell you eternal life, but only if you use and depend on their continual guidance. We are not only expected to consume products but we also expected to consume ideas, beliefs and cultural values. Since consumerism is a never ending activity, in fact in our society it is often our second and equally important job, new products and fads must filter through our society at an ever quickening pace. Consumerism is more American than apple pie, it long ago passed up baseball as the national past time.
lyrics
Sally Ward 4/2/1975
All the people on TV
Show me how to live life better
Like the books with the sex
Are so good they’re all best sellers
Like the days of Sally Ward
Selling albums by the score
If she smiles at you she’ll sell some more
Ain’t she divine
Try and buy some sometime
All the people want me to feel
Yes, but I’ve got to do it their way
Like the priest on his feet
Want me to see it his god’s way
Like the days of Billy Jack
Telling you where it’s at
His feet are in such demand
Ain’t he divine
Try it his way sometime
