While one person can be enthralled with life seeing it as a wondrous puzzle of ever unfolding opportunity, another may see it as a dangerous illusion to overcome. Where one embraces and revels in uncertainty, the other creates Truths and realities which often are filled with pain and suffering.
The singer seems to feel that his beloved spends too much time seeking and fearing pain and suffering and that the sickness that she feels is only real when she perceives that she is ill. This is not to say it is completely in her head, but only that her perspective helps foster her feelings of sickness and pain and the view that life is hard and difficult.
lyrics
Malady 5/23/85
It’s just the story of the will
It’s just a feeling that you got to get untracked now
I see no reason to give in
To a legend that equates my life with suffering
It’s just me, moving on
It’s just me, I don’t need no final resolution
I don’t’ know why you just can’t get the feeling
I can’t say why you like making pain
You say I’m too tied to this life
Hey girl, you say I’m all emotion
Like that’s a terrible thing
You feel that life is destiny, with guilt and fear
I feel life an ecstasy, it’s all here
You say life’s a dream to overcome
Isn’t it queer?
For even my dreams of intimacy
They’re all here
The sickness that you feel is only real when you feel
The sickness that you feel…….
La maladie de sentir, elle est seule vraie,
Quand elle sentir,
This is the moment, woman you can take it,
This is the moment so rich you can taste it
Give me, give me soft emotion
Give me, give me a soulless heart
I just can’t buy into a malicious world, no I can’t
You play with pointed things and crave admonitions
You play with pointed things and state that pain will set you free
This may be scary news but there’s nothing more to worry you
All you got is a sunny day, I’m sure you’ll conjure up some evil prey
Seeking TRUTH has put a hole in you
The sickness that you feel is only real when you feel
The sickness that you feel…….
