Sanity is dependent on a rather amazing confluence of thoughts, sensations, feelings and emotions. When you think of all the things that could go wrong and could throw any aspect of body and mind out of kilter, it is rather amazing that any of us are able to sustain mental health. A single significant deviation in terms of time, space, personal history or some aberration of long, short or medium term memory could have us lose our grip on reality or a reliance on a continuous self.
This song explores the precariousness of sanity and mental, sensorial and emotional continuity.
lyrics
Looking to Madness 5/5/90
I know no-body is talking to me
Voices keep droning to leave you
Silence stalks meaning passively
Colors of sound keep on changing
Hot streaks ablaze pulling me
Nothing stays the same when life’s peeling
Looking to madness, staring back at me
Hot, hot fever is draining the grey
People like puppets dancing as rain
All day and night
Panicked and sweating in fright
My head is floating in light
Feeling woozy still
Flying high, deep inside
Buildings fade into whitish haze
Even in action I feel you
Carving out shadows in the noon day sun
Moments in a quilt of desire
Am I two or only one?
My legs scale the pavement
Wary and soft clinging ivy
Keep on crawling into the light
Someone is watching me climb
Someone is crushing my spine
I know no-body is talking to me (talk, talk)
Who is this?
Looking to madness
