Those who have very vivid and frightening nightmares often dread gong to sleep. The approaching dark of night is met by mounting anxiety. Yet, no matter now drowsy and restless a person is, sleep is inevitable.
Incubus is a song which describes the life of one haunted by the nightly prospect of a repeating nightmare. No matter, what he does, or doesn't do, the result is to be transported and held prisoner by the phantasms of one's own mind.
Each and every night no matter how much he tries he can't prevent himself from walking through that door, from living that scene of pure terror, of succumbing to the steel claws of the incubus.

Incubus 10/12/1978
Just a normal day like any other one
But you do fear going home now
To your darkened soul
Haunted in the eve, distressing memories
That invade you when you’re lonely
When you’re by yourself
Well you walk thru the door
Expanding shadows of hell
The swelling corners of your room
Darkness endless growth your flesh begins to crawl
Your heart runs wild your body freezes
Even your sweat is cold, you gasp and you choke
All is taut and cold, you strain to get a hold
Of he nerves so out of control, of the beast descending on
Avoid those steel claws of incubus
Can’t escape those steel claws of incubus
The passion of your plight, will exhaust your night
Waking sleepy, stomach queasy
Intrusion upon your will, why can’t you be still?
Psychic over kill
Violated, phantom Hades, that awaits your bedside
You tremble at the hours you must spend in this tower
In the clutches of this ghoul
Little sun ever shines in the night time of your mind
Cries of death, death, that ubiquitous song
Paralyzed by the cold, seizing taking hold
Maimed deep inside
You lose what is real, what is now, what you feel
Your senses take their leave
Avoid those steel claws of incubus
Can’t escape those steel claws of incubus
Don’t you dare walk into the room
Don’t you dare walk into the room
Comes into your soul
