The death of a relationship can be devastating. One is losing not only the love of their life, but a good deal of their history. A lover and partner has been witness to your life and their memories and feeling have documented the many years you have been together.

Lover's know us and our bodies in intimate ways in which we can't. If they leave us, we lose access to their internal photo album which often times caught us at our best moments and in the best light.

In Desperation he turns to the love of his life. He openly admits his dependency on her. Freedom from her would be similar to being free from the very air he breathes or the food that keeps him alive.

Their relationship providing his life with comfort and meaning. Living with out her would be like surviving a fire that destroyed one's home. All the accumulated possessions which housed the remnants of one's life are forever lost and life in so many ways is starting over deprived of all its previous history and meaning.
