about

The deceptive facade of government has been present my entire life. Being lied to on daily basis can make one sad if not all out depressed. The spin sounds so convincing in its surreal cartoonish world of heroes and villains. Life is so much easier if we just accept the official narrative and pull for the good guys.

Wheezing a somber note
I’ve heard all the old stories and all the old lies
Euphony of simple logic the poetic bile
Sated from looking beyond the obvious

We are all victims of information overload in which no story holds up to any consistent scrutiny.

Information in profuse
Contradictions we’re confused

We think we're too sophisticated and intelligent to be totally taken in by PR and spin doctors. Growing up with varied forms of electronic media we can see through not only most ad and sales campaigns but also political bullshit. Yet, despite our skepticism and cynicism, we can fall for a face, personality and voice we can trust.

We think we’ve overcome
That we are no longer the gullible crowd
Now we are disarmed by lingo a liberal smile
When we see we’re mistaken we run to the other side

Our need to believe and to trust our leaders makes us relatively easy prey to be duped and give them the benefit of the doubt. After all, while they may life, they are still well intentioned good people, aren't they? While the debate between the two parties can be very rancorous, many sense that the underlying goals are truly the same.

The façade will entreat
The knife tastes so sweet
We train our vision to see oblique
Both sides of the issue are just a repeat

Journalists just parrot both sides of the same basic narrative, never questioning if there are alternate perspectives and viewpoints which fall outside the military/industrial complex with its goals of conquest and economic domination. The choice is either Pepsi or Coke, no mention is ever made of any other beverage being a serious option.

The journalist brags of the gift of free speech
But the muckrakers inveigle us into objectivity
Oh they’ve got us way off of the course
Any movement just increases the force
Cajoled into a feeling of choice
Patriotism just a catch word for abhor

You can always pick out the good person because they are smiling, shaking hands and telling you whatever you want to hear. Or at least that is what the facade is meant to present.

She’s really got me, got me with her smile
You really got me, got me with your smile

I find it amazing that these words and the observations they contain were obvious to me in the late 70's. I find it sobering and instructive to see how long this whole spin and propaganda thing has been going on.
