Finding and maintaining an intimate relationship involves commitment and attentive awareness. Love and intimacy aren't always the same thing, and love can be both imbalanced and harmful.

One can mistake pure physical attraction for intimate love. In these situations a person can be physically and chemically drawn to another even if they aren't emotionally compatible or they are actually detrimental to each others self-esteem.

One can also be drawn towards someone because they are compatible with their values, personalities, and life style. Yet, such a relationship devoid of passion and the possibility for personal growth and development will often become stale and unfulfilling.
