Most people seek relationships and do not want to be alone. They often spend a great deal of time trying to be alluring and attractive to their desired audience. The staged presentation often serves two purposes, one it hopefully increases their sexual marketability and two the lack of authenticity in the presentation lessens the sting of being rejected.
The dance of seduction and enticement gets played out in many social environments. With so many identifiable characters and personalities.
Dancing Joe is always on the make (girl)
Plays in light while casting frantic shadows
Jezebel gets so pretty when you’re drinking
Her velvet thighs shimmer like rainbows
One beautiful but fragile lady catches the eye and interest of the singer.
Covergirl or victim of the week
It all depends on the whims of brute emotion
Tantalized by smiling black eyes
I take her back to her apartment
A night of passion mixed with desperation ensues.
Come here”, she says, “do you sense my yearning building”
“It’s you,” she says, “that’s got my juices flowing”
“Take me now, relieve my passion”
“Tell me you love me and I’m so attractive”
Some time later he sees the same woman is a self-destructive mode.
Two weeks later she’s snorting up a storm
Her puffed eyes and easy agitation
Take their toll on this beauty with no sleep
Her fragile smile seeks some entertainment
He watches her degrade herself and feels a combination of pity and compassion. He finds himself still attracted to her, but does not trust that she is capable right now of engaging in a healthy relationship.
After a night of sordid rejection
Her anger gives way to empty depression
Out of control and bent on destruction
I take her back to her apartment
He takes her home and makes sure she is safe. After consoling her and trying to reassure her that she is worthy of love and respect he tries to leave.
“Stay here” she says, “the night is long and oh so lonely”
“It’s you,” she says, “that’s got my juices flowing”
I know I should walk away, it’s not my fault she’s on the decay
Yet her pain keeps calling me back,
She needs a friend to get back on track
He wants to offer her friendship and compassion, but she desperately wants validation of her desirability as a lover. He wishes she could see the futility and self-destructiveness of her ways.
Why don’t you look at yourself woman?
He is moved by her condition. Her fears, addictions, and her poor self-esteem make it seem impossible that he could ever help her. He wishes she could see herself, both as the underlying good person she is, as well as the lost person she has become. Yet, she finds his very attitude and his care to be insulting and frightening, and even with him still present she begins to try to find some friends to go party with.
I could lead you, I could free you
But you’re too damn scared to give it a try
She’s too scared to be all alone
She’s too scared she’s on the phone
Looking for a magic potion to take the real away
She’s too scared
