Our ability to be self-conscious, to see ourselves, allows us to live in the possible and not just limited to to being in the actual. This is the realm of fictional space, in which we can dream, scheme, create, lie or invent. When the real happens we are free to play with the circumstance and to internalize and fill it with an assortment of meanings. Our ability to live in fictional space creates for us a personal story a sense of having a past, future and present which we continue to straddle and dart back and forth between.
There’s something of the mind which plays off circumstance
Like a servant pampered king it can be wise of frivolous
Unencumbered one used for strategy of evasion
Place me straddled on this life
This ability to see both without and within fills our life with energy and vitality. We can play many roles, and even during a single event can focus and maximize our sensorial, emotional, visceral and cognitive experience of the moment.
Vision gives me power and might
Bash their monstrous heads, the survivors scheme
Lovers engulfed orgasmic anticipation
The hunter laughs at the snap of the trap
While fictional space is a wonderful gift and talent, it can be abused in destructive ways or be used to distance and hide oneself from reality. Instead of maximizing the moment and living life intimately, one can just pass the time in idle fantasy or miss deep connection through seeking thrills with no lasting joy.
There’s something that’s the style which I won’t represent
It’s a feeling of denial wan discouragement
Harlots of the soul lost in merriment
Visceral drives buried by excitement
Fictional space is neither inherently good nor bod, fulfilling nor empty, it all depends on how one uses it. The proper use of this ability is more art than science, and is more about being enthralled and appreciative of the preciousness of life than engaging in any specific behavior. It's so often how you experience and devour life then what you actually do.
Moments take pride in invention
Problems provoke awkward hesitation
Solution, look to friendly vistas
The future beckons the agile dancer
We all create our story and live our own personal movie. Identifying and celebrating this our talent for Fictional Space should help motivate to create the most intimate, passionate and self-fulfilling story that we can imagine and live.
Make me alive set me on fire
Make me alive celluloid fire
